On Wednesday August 28 at approximately 4:07 p.m. officers of the Grand Forks Police Department responded to the intersection of 4th Ave S & Cherry Street for a reported motor vehicle crash. Preliminary investigation has revealed that a 2014 Ford Fusion, driven by 22 year old Grand Forks resident Rekha Darjee, was eastbound on 4th Ave S when it made a left turn at the intersection with Cherry Street in front of a 2009 Honda Accord, driven by 18 year old Grand Forks resident Shayanne Berry, who was westbound on 4th Ave S.
The crash caused Darjee’s vehicle to strike a traffic signal post at the intersection. Berry’s vehicle left the roadway and struck trees near the intersection. Darjee and Berry were both transported to Altru Hospital by ambulance; the extent of their injuries are unknown at this time. Darjee was issued a citation for Failure to Yield Right of Way at a Controlled Intersection.
The Police Department was assisted by the Grand Forks Fire Department and Altru Hospital Ambulance.
