TWO-VEHICLE ACCIDENT REPORTED IN FERTILE

On Monday, April 19, the Polk County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to 202 North Mill Street in the city of Fertile for a two vehicle accident. Deputies were advised that one car was T-boned, and that the other car drove into a building. Deputies arrived on scene and noticed a 2008 Blue Toyota RAV 4 driven by Cheryll Reitmeier (69-year-old of Fertile) in the middle of Lincoln Avenue NE with heavy passenger side damage. A 2017 White Chevy Malibu driven by Eleanor Olson (86-year-old of Fertile) had driven into the building of Vern’s Carpet. It was determined that the Chevy Malibu was leaving the bank parking when the driver accidentally hit the gas pedal instead of the break. The Chevy Malibu hit the Toyota RAV 4 on the passenger side and kept going into the building.

The Toyota RAV 4, Chevy Malibu and the building sustained extensive damage. Eleanor was transported to Riverview Hospital with nonlife threating injuries by County EMS.

Assisting agencies were Fertile Fire and County EMS.

No further information will be released at this time.
