U.S. REPRESENTATIVE MICHELLE FISCHBACH PRESENTED TERM LIMITS PLAQUE, COSPONSORS BILL TO AMEND CONSTITUTION

This week, Michelle Fischbach of Minnesota’s 7th congressional district was honored for her steadfast commitment to placing term limits on Congress. U.S. Term Limits (USTL), the nation’s largest pro-term limits group, honored Fishbach at the capitol in St. Paul for taking a strong stand on this important election reform.

USTL’s National Field Director, Scott Tillman presented Fischbach with a glass plaque inscribed with her signed term limits pledge.  Fischbach vowed that, as a member of Congress, she will cosponsor and vote for the U.S. Term Limits Amendment of three (3) house terms and (2) senate terms and no longer limit.

True to her word, she cosponsored HJR 12, which is a proposal to amend the Constitution of the United States to limit the number of terms that a member of Congress may serve to six years in the house and twelve years in the senate. More than 92 members of Congress have cosponsored the joint bills. HJR 12 is sponsored by Rep. Ralph Norman of South Carolina and SJR3 is sponsored by Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas.

Her stance on term limits aligns with an overwhelming majority of Minnesotans. According to a 2020 Minnesota poll on term limits conducted by Pulse Opinion Research, term limits enjoy wide bipartisan support. 81% of Republicans, 67% of Democrats, and 78% of independents strongly approve of placing term limits on members of Congress.

Once the amendment is proposed by Congress, it must be ratified by 38 states in order to become an amendment to the U.S. Constitution.
