UMC BASEBALL SCORES 2 IN 11TH INNING TO BEAT MARY

The University of Minnesota Crookston Golden Eagle Baseball team trailed 5-4 in the bottom of the 11th inning when the first two batters walked, and Danny Wensloff (Sr. Roseau) doubled down the first base line to score two runs for a 6-5 victory over the University of Mary Marauders in a Northern Sun Conference loser-out game in Bismarck, North Dakota.

FIRST INNING –
Mary’s Carter Beck singled with one out, and Josh Walker followed with a single. The next batter hit into a double play, and UMC got out of a jam.
UMC was retired in 1-2-3 fashion.

SECOND INNING-
Mary was retired in 1-2-3 fashion with two ground outs and one strikeout. UMC was retired in 1-2-3 fashion with two strikeouts and one ground out.

THIRD INNING-
Mary’s Daniel Martin singled. After a strikeout, the next Marauder hit into a double play. UMC was retired in 1-2-3 fashion with a groundout, strikeout, and flyout.

FOURTH INNING-
Mary led off the inning, reaching on an error, but the next three batters were retired. UMC’s Sawyer Satrom (Soph. Portland, ND) singled for the Golden Eagles’ first hit of the game. After a fly out, the next batter hit into a double play to retire the Golden Eagles.

FIFTH INNING-
Mary was retired in 1-2-3 fashion. UMC finally got on the board for the first time in the tournament as Jake Hjelle (Sr. East Grand Forks) led off with a walk. After an out, Kodi Miller (Jr. Grand Rapids) doubled to score a run for a 1-0 lead. Danny Wensloff (Sr. Roseau) singled and Mitch Goodwin (Sr. Prior Lake) knocked in a run with a sacrifice fly for a 2-0 lead.

SIXTH INNING-
Mary answered in the top of the sixth inning when Kalem Haney reached on a bunt single, and the NSIC Freshman of the Year, Carter Beck, hit a two-run home run to tie the game at 2-2.
Mary brought in a new pitcher, and he walked three batters to load the bases. But UMC wasn’t able to score a run and the game was still tied at 2-2.

SEVENTH INNING-
Mary’s first batter popped out before Daniel Martin walked. The Marauder’s #9 batter, Kreece Papierski, hit a line drive over the left-center field fence for a two-run home run for a 4-2 lead.
UMC’s first two batters struck out before Kobe Senn (Soph. Fargo, ND) singled. The next batter grounded out, and Mary took a 4-2 lead into the eighth inning.

EIGHTH INNING-
Mary’s Noah Hull singled with one out before the next two batters were retired.
UMC answered in the bottom of the inning when Caden Headlee (Sr. Fargo, ND) singled up the middle and Teddy Giefer (Sr. Courtland) blasted a shot over the right field fence to tie the game at 4-4.

NINTH INNING
Mary’s leadoff batter reached on a single before the next batter tried a sacrifice bunt. The bunt popped up a bit, and UMC’s pitcher, Noah Grafsgaard (Jr. Devils Lake, ND), made it hit the grass, the catch before and he threw to first base to get the double play.
UMC’s first batter struck out before Goodwin singled. The next batter reached on a fielder’s choice before a flyout, and UMC was retired, forcing extra innings with the game tied at 4-4.

TENTH INNING-
Mary’s leadoff batter was hit by a pitch, and the next batter walked. The next batter was out on a sacrifice bunt to advance the runners to second and third base. After a strikeout, UMC elected to intentionally walk the Maruader batter before a huge strikeout to get out of a bases load jam.
UMC was retired in 1-2-3 fashion to force an 11th inning.

ELEVENTH INNING-
Mary led the inning off with a walk, then advanced to second on a wild pitch and scored on an error for a 5-4 lead.
UMC’s Dykhoff and Cole Hebl (Fresh. Hillsboro, ND) walked. Danny Wensloff was ahead in the count with 2 balls and one strike when he smashed a ground ball down the first base line into right field for a double to score two runs and the Golden Eagles won the game 6-5.

UMC improves to 35-15 overall and will play the loser of #1 seed Augustana and #5 Wayne State around 7:30 to 8:00 p.m.  Mary’s season comes to an end with a 23-27 record.
