UMC Baseball swept by UM-Duluth

The University of Minnesota Crookston Golden Eagle baseball team lost 3-2 and 7-6 to the University of Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs in a Northern Sun Conference doubleheader played in Duluth.

GAME ONE –

FIRST INNING
Sawyer Satrom was the baserunner of the game, as he singled with one away. Even though UMC got a two-out walk to put two on, UMD starter Braylen Buttweiler got out of the inning, getting two groundouts and a strikeout to end the frame.
After back-to-back foul outs to start the inning, the Bulldogs got a one-out walk before a popout ended the inning quickly.

SECOND INNING
UMC got a one-out single from Kyler Miller, but Buttweiler once again avoided any more baserunners and kept the Golden Eagles scoreless.
UMD got things underway quickly in the bottom of the 2nd inning with back-to-back singles to get two on with no one out. After a sacrifice bunt, Caden Klebba hit a sacrifice fly, putting the Bulldogs on the board with a 1-0 lead. Then, Nick Thompson and Sam Kliber got back-to-back RBI hits, putting the Bulldogs up 3-0 as the inning ended.

THIRD INNING
UMC got a one-out walk from Sawyer Satrom, but nothing else, and went down quietly in the 3rd.
UMD went down in order in the third inning.

FOURTH INNING
UMC got a two-out single from Kyler Miller in the 4th, but the three other batters were retired to prevent any threat.
Josh Dykhoff would strike out the side for UMC in the 4th inning.

FIFTH INNING
After a quick out to start the 5th, UMC got a single from Debilzen, and a double from Satrom, and Dykhoff was walked intentionally to load the bases. However, no one could come through; Debilzen was thrown out on a force play and Kobe Senn grounded into another force play to end the inning with UMC still off the scoreboard.
Dykhoff would strike out two more and get a groundout for another quick and easy inning.

SIXTH INNING
UMC finally broke the scoreless drought. Kyler Miller singled, Aaron Wensloff walked, and then with runners on second and third with two outs, Debilzen singled in both runners, cutting the lead down to 3-2 as the game headed to the bottom of the 6th inning.
For the third inning in a row, UMD was shut down in order by Josh Dykhoff.

SEVENTH INNING
In the seventh, UMC got a double from Americo Sculati with one away. After that, KObe Senn hit one up the middle for a base hit, but Sculati was held at third base. This proved to be consequential, as the next two batters for UMC were retired, giving the Bulldogs a 3-2 win.

GAME TWO –  

FIRST INNING
UMC got off to a red-hot start in game 2. Debilzen led things off with a single, and then after a walk, Dykhoff came to the plate and doubled, scoring both runs, putting UMC up 2-0. Then, after an out, Satrom doubled in Dykhoff, giving UMC a 3-0 lead at the end of the frame.
The Bulldogs looked to respond in kind in the home half of the inning. Kilber got to third on an error and a balk, and after an out, Troy Lynch hit a sacrifice fly to get UMD on the board, at 3-1. Then, Rosenberg tripled, and Stauffacher would drive him in with a single, and the game would be at 3-2 at the end of the inning.

SECOND INNING
Sculati led off the 2nd inning with a single. However, after a popout, Debilzen grounded into a 4-6-3 double play to end the inning quickly for the Golden Eagles.
A leadoff double got things started for the Bulldogs, but Sam weber buckled down on the mound for the Golden Eagles, and got two groundouts and a flyout to keep the Bulldogs off of the scoreboard.

THIRD INNING
UMC was retired in order in the top of the 3rd, on a flyout, a strikeout and a popout.
UMD didn’t look like they would get anything going with two quick outs. But then, Rosenberg came up to the plate and homered, tying the game at 3 through three innings.

FOURTH INNING
UMC got a two-out walk with Danny Wensloff in the top of the 4th, but the rest of the batters that stepped up to the plate for the Golden Eagles went down quietly.
UMD went down in order in the home half of the 4th, on a strikeout, foulout and groundout.

FIFTH INNING
Connor Bushbaum led off the top of the fifth with a single, but then, UMD turned their second double play of the game, and then got Kyler Miller to groundout to set the Golden Eagles down in order.
Hayden Anthony got things started with a single, then followed it up with a stolen base. After that, Kilber singled to left field, but Americo Sculati threw out Anthony at the plate to keep the game tied. A groundout would then end the inning.

SIXTH INNING
UMC got a one-out walk from Aaron Wensloff and a single from Satrom, and then a passed ball gave the Golden eagles runners on second and third with only one out. However, Senn and Danny Wensloff would go down quietly, leaving the runners stranded.
In the home half of the inning, Lynch led of with a solo home run, giving the Bulldogs their first lead of the game at 4-3. They would get a one-out single from Stauffacher, but that would be all from them, holding a 4-3 lead through 6.

SEVENTH INNING
UMC would be retired in order in the top of the 7th on a flyout and two groundouts.
UMD would get a leadoff double to start the bottom of the seventh, but the Golden Eagle bullpen would keep the inning scoreless, getting a flyout, groundout and strikeout to end the inning.

EIGHTH INNING
UMC would be retired again in order in the 8th, again on two groundouts and a flyout.
In the 8th, control started to disappear for the UMC bullpen, as a two walks and a hit by pitch loaded the bases with one away. Isaac Wensloff came in to pitch in relief, and he gave up a sacrifice fly to give the Bulldogs a 5-3 lead through 8 innings.

NINTH INNING
In the ninth, UMC looked to surge and take the lead. With one away, Senn and Danny Wensloff walked, and Sculati singled in Senn to cut the lead down to 5-4. Then, pinch hitter Connor Hebl singled to tie the game at 5, and runners on the corners with one away. Debilzen would be up next, and he would hit a sacrifice fly to give UMC the lead back at the end of the inning, with a 6-5 advantage.
Noah Grafsgaard came in to get the save, and things looked great, initially, but a walk and stolen base put the tying run on second with two away. Rosenberg would come up next, and he hit a clutch double to tie the game at 6. Two walks would load the bases, and a passed ball would score Rosenberg, leading to an unfortunate 7-6 loss for UMC.

UMC drops to 20-24 on the year, and an even 17-17 in NSIC play with 6 games to go.
