UMC CHANCELLOR MARY HOLZ-CLAUSE COMMUNITY LETTER FOR JULY

Happy summer from the University of Minnesota Crookston! Our campus is in full bloom and many of the 6,500 flowers and plants that were planted this season are showing their bright colors. We hope you can come by for a visit.

August is just around the corner and we have a variety of events we’d love for you to attend.

Tuesday, August 6 the annual Night to Unite event will be held from 4:30-7:30 p.m. on our Campus Mall with food trucks, safety demonstrations, fun activities and contests, giveaways, and booths from dozens of area agencies. This year’s community wide event of neighbors joining together has the theme “Celebrating Educators”, which recognizes the remarkable impact of dedicated professionals in nurturing the leaders of tomorrow.

During the Crookston Ox Cart Days festival August 12-18, we will be hosting two events on campus as well as participating in the Taste of Crookston, Torchlight Parade, and other events.

Tuesday, August 13 we have our annual 3-on-3 youth basketball tournament in the Wellness Center from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. with sign up through the SportsEngine Tourney app or coach Tim Lubke at lubke008@umn.edu.

Wednesday, August 14 we have our annual Ice Cream Social from 3-5 p.m. on the Campus Mall with free ice cream, live music, and a preview of other festival events.

Then, on Thursday, August 29, we will be showcasing the beauty of our campus with Art & Garden Tours from 4:30-7 p.m. starting in the Kiehle Building. There will be guided or self-guided tours available to view our newly chronicled art and gardens, plus hors d’oeuvres and beverages, live performances by the Crookston Community Band, a commemorative gift, and a gathering in the renewed Allen and Freda Pedersen Garden. Find tickets at z.umn.edu/artandgardentour or contact Michelle Christopherson at mchristo@umn.edu.

Also at the end of August, we celebrate 118 years as a campus with our first day of classes on August 27. We hope you greet our new and returning students out in the community, and enjoy their presence.

Chancellor Mary Holz-Clause
