WILLISTON STATE PULLS AWAY FOR A 7-3 VICTORY OVER UMC CLUB HOCKEY

The Williston State College Tetons used three goals in the second period, including two in 20 seconds to defeat the University of Minnesota Crookston Golden Eagles 7-3 in a game played at the Crookston Sports Center.

First Period
UMC scored the first goal of the game when Josh Nelson (Fr., D, East Grand Forks) scored on a nice shot that snuck above the left shoulder of Tetons goalie Nelson Schiller. Assisting on the goal was Casey Kallock (Jr., D, East Grand Forks) and Ben Trostad (Jr., D, Crookston).

The Tetons answered with two goals in the period, including a goal with 36 seconds left in the period for a 2-1 lead going into the second period

Second Period
Williston State College outshot Crookston 11-8, so the play was somewhat even, but that didn’t show on the scoreboard as the Tetons scored three straight goals in the period, two of them 20 seconds apart for a 5-1 lead.  The Tetons had a five-minute major penalty for roughing and UMC took advantage of the one-man advantage when Cam Olstad (Soph., F, Grand Forks, N.D.) would find the back of the net off of an assist from Nelson and Tyler Zahradka (Fr., F, Grand Forks, N.D.) to get within a 5-2 deficit going into the third period.

Third Period
The five-minute major penalty continued to hurt the Tetons at the start of the third period when Crookston’s own, Brandon Boetcher (Fr., F, Crookston) would score from the left dot to cut the lead to 5-3.  The game was even for a while until the Tetons found the back of the net twice in the final minutes and they held on for a 7-3 victory.

UMC drops to 2-4 on the year and will host the University of Mary Marauders next weekend.  Williston State College improves to 9-13 on the year.
