The University of Jamestown Jimmies scored five straight goals at the end of the first period into the second period on their way to a 7-4 victory over the short-handed University of Minnesota Crookston Golden Eagle Club Hockey team in a game played in Jamestown to split the weekend series. UMC only had 14 players after one of them received a game misconduct at the end of Friday’s game.
FIRST PERIOD –
UMC had a quick start with a Brandon Boetcher (Fresh. Crookston) goal 21 seconds into the game. The goal was Boetcher’s second of the season. Less than two minutes later the Golden Eagles took a 2-0 lead when Tyler Zahradka (Fresh. Grand Forks) scored his second goal of the year. Jamestown responded in a big way with three goals over a six-minute span to take a 3-2 lead going into the first intermission.
SECOND PERIOD
Jamestown continued their goal streak by scoring two goals 23 seconds apart in the middle of the period and added another goal with 33 seconds remaining in the period to take a 6-2 lead going into the third period.
THIRD PERIOD
UMC scored a much-needed goal 1:18 into the third period when Cam Olstad (Soph. Grand Forks) stopped the Jamestown five-goal streak to get within a 6-3 deficit. Neither team scored for the next 15 minutes. Jamestown added an insurance goal with 3:16 left in the game for a 7-3 lead, but UMC’s Brian Bekkala (Sr. Livonia, Mich) scored his first goal of the season with 32 seconds left and Jamestown won 7-3 to earn the weekend series split.
Crookston drops to 1-1 on the year and will host Minnesota State Moorhead next weekend. Jamestown improves to 5-11-1.
