The University of Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs who defeated UMC last night in Duluth jumped out to a 5-0 lead, but UMC came back with the next five points with a three from Georges Darwiche (Jr-Bucharest, Romania) and a jumper for two from Brian Sitzmann (Jr-Prior Lakes) and it was 5-5. The Bulldogs in the next three and a half minutes went on a 12-0 run to take a 17-5 lead with 11:45 to go in the first half. The Bulldogs kept at it, causing turnovers, bad shots and were all of sudden out in front 26-11 with seven minutes left and at this point UMC was shooting 23 percent, making two three’s while the Bulldogs were shooting 60 percent in their gym and made six trey’s!! UMC took a commanding 40-22 lead at the half.
Things didn’t change much in the second half as Duluth was red hot, continuing 61 percent shooting including 12 treys building up an 80-42 lead with three minutes to go in the game. Sitzmann was the only Golden Eagle in double figures with 19 points and the only UMC player that shot fairly well with 7-12 from the field with three treys, but the UMC Bulldogs go away with a sweep at home in an 84-45 win.
UMC is now 2-10 overall and 1-9 in the Northern Sun Conference and will host St. Cloud State next Friday and Saturday. UMD raises their record to 4-5 overall and 3-5 in the conference and will be at Bemidji State next weekend.
