UMC MEN’S BASKETBALL RALLY COMES UP SHORT IN 74-70 LOSS TO ST. CLOUD STATE

The University of Minnesota Crookston (UMC) Men’s Basketball team almost overcame a horrible start with a terrific second half, but ended up losing 74-70 to visiting St. Cloud State tonight at the Gary Senske Court in Lysaker Gym in Crookston.

First Half
St. Cloud State started the game on an 11-2 run to take the early lead and didn’t let up much as they had a 23 point lead at one time. UMC’s Leonard Dixon (Jr-Damascus, Oregon) tried to hold the Golden Eagles within reach scoring seven straight points. St. Cloud State showed a lot of intensity on defense and strong inside with a big margin in rebounding. The Huskies ended the half on a 19-7 run to take a 47-24 lead at half time.

Second Half
The Golden Eagles had an 8-0 run to start the second half and continued their intensity on both ends as they started getting the confidence that they could play with St. Cloud State. The Golden Eagles had another run, this time 17-3 and eventually got within two points. UMC got a defensive stop with 10 seconds left in the game and down by two, but a turnover ended any thoughts of a comeback as St. Cloud State hit two free throws at the end to pick up the 74-70 victory on the road.
UMC has now lost four in a row and fall to 2-11 on the season and 1-10 in the Northern Sun Conference. St. Cloud State improves to 6-7 overall and 4-5 in the conference. The two teams will conclude the weekend series tomorrow afternoon at 1:30 PM. in Crookston.
