The University of Minnesota Crookston Golden Eagle Men’s Basketball team had to offensive droughts in the game and came up short in a 62-47 loss to Central Oklahoma in the 2025-26 season opener in Oklahoma.
FIRST HALF –
Central Oklahoma had a great start to the game, scoring the first 13 points to take a 13-0 lead almost five minutes into the game. UMC finally got on the board a little over six minutes into the game when Spencer Swenson made a layup. The teams exchanged baskets the rest of the half, and UMC got the deficit down to eight points (28-20) after a three-pointer by Alijah Washington with 29 seconds left in the half. Central Oklahoma added a basket with 14 seconds remaining and took a 30-20 lead into halftime.
SECOND HALF –
UMC trailed by 10 points (33-23) three minutes into the half when Swenson scored on a layup. Central Oklahoma answered with a basket before UMC’s Donez Lindsey buried a three-pointer to get within a 35-28 deficit. Central Oklahoma led 37-30 when they went on a 9-0 run over a six-minute stretch for a 46-30 lead with nine minutes left in the game. UMC finally got back on the board with a Washington basket, and he followed with a three-pointer to get within a 46-35 deficit with 7:58 remaining. Central Oklahoma answered in a big way with a 10-0 run for a 56-35 lead with 4:28 left in the game. UMC’s Washington stopped the run with a layup, and Lindsey added a basket, but Central Oklahoma held on the rest of the way to win the game 62-47.
UMC struggled offensively in their first game of the season, making only 18 of 61 shots for 29 percent. They were 5 of 29 on three-pointers for 17 percent, and only took 10 free throws in the game and made six for 60 percent.
UMC drops to 0-1 on the season. Central Oklahoma improves to 2-2 on the year.
