UMC MEN’S BASKETBALL SIGNS A 6’9 JUCO TRANSFER

The University of Minnesota Crookston men’s basketball team announced the signing of Nathaniel Powell (F/C, 6-9, Nottingham, England/Williston State College (N.D.).

Powell averaged 6 points and 8 rebounds per game as a sophomore at Williston State College. AS a freshman, Powell played in 30 games and averaged 4 points and 5 rebounds per game, while shooting 42.1 percent from the field.
As a prep, he competed at Barking Abbey School. He was named the EABL Player of the Week October 5, 2018. Powell was part of the Great Britain National Team and the England National Team.

“Adding Naz to our program gives us a dimension we were lacking last season,” said Head Coach Dan Weisse. “Our post play was a liability, and my hope is that our post play will become a strength. Naz is a mobile big body that will give resistance on the defensive end in the post. Offensively, he has great hands and is a great passer. He’s unselfish and willing to hit the open man, and is capable of scoring it in the post. Coach Hernandez did a great job with Naz at Williston State and has been extremely supportive through this process. Naz is a great young man that will not only benefit our basketball program on the floor but also on campus and in the Crookston community. I’m excited that Naz has put his trust in us and I am looking forward to coaching him.”

Powell was born Dec. 13, 2000. He is the son of Dorothy Smith and Ashley Powell. He plans to major in business.
