The University of Minnesota Crookston Golden Eagle men’s basketball team wraps up the season with a game at Bemidji State and they are going out with a bang as the teams are tied at 50 at halftime.
FIRST HALF –
Bemidji State took a 3-2 lead to start the game before UMC’s Alijah Washington (Jr., San Jose, CA) made a three-pointer, and on the next trip down the floor, he had a dunk for a 7-3 lead two minutes into the game. The teams exchanged baskets for the next six minutes, and UMC led 24-19. Bemidji State went on a 9-3 run to take a 28-27 lead halfway through the half. UMC countered with a 7-2 run as Washington scored four points and Donez Lindsey (Fresh. Stockton, CA) hit a three-pointer for a 34-30 lead with eight minutes left in the half. UMC led 36-32 when BSU scored five straight points, and UMC answered with five points with a three-point play by Spencer Swenson (Fresh. Sauk Rapids) and a J.D. Roberts (Jr. Parkville, MO) layup. The back and forth continued the rest of the half, and Crookston led 50-46 with one minute to go, but BSU scored the final four points to tie the game at 50-50 at halftime.
SECOND HALF –
BSU had a strong start to the second half as they outscored Crookston 13-4 in the first three minutes for a 63-54 lead. Bemidji State led 69-62 when UMC went on a 9-2 run behind Braydon Carlson’s (Soph. Woodbury) four points, a Kazadi Mukoma Jr. (Jr. Grand Island, NE) three-pointer, and two Owen Chervestad (Fresh. Oklee) free throws to tie the game at 71-71 halfway through the half. After a BSU basket, UMC’s Roberts converted a three-point play for a 74-73 lead. BSU went on an 8-2 run before UMC’s Lindsey buried a three-pointer, and the Beavers led 81-79 with under six minutes remaining. Once again, BSU pulled away with a 10-3 run for an 87-79 lead. UMC’s Washington stopped the run with a basket, but the Beavers answered with a basket of their own. UMC got within a 93-87 deficit with two minutes remaining, but BSU ended the game on a 6-3 run and won the game 99-89.
