BOETCHER & OLSTAD LEAD UMC’S MEN’S CLUB HOCKEY TO 6-0 WIN TO END SEASON

Brandon Boetcher (Fresh-Crookston) and Cam Olstad (Soph-Grand Forks, N.D.) scored twice each and UMC goalie, Jake Sumner (Fresh-Alta Loma, CA) recorded his first college shutout to lead the Golden Eagles to a 6-0 win over the visiting Jamestown Jimmies and sweep the weekend series against the number 13th ranked in the ACHA Division II. UMC finishes the season at 6-7 and they are not eligible for the ACHA Division II playoffs as it’s their first season in the ACHA. The University of Minnesota Crookston (UMC) started out with three goals in the first period to stake their goalie to a 3-0 lead with goals from freshman Josh Nelson (East Grand Forks, Boetcher and Olstad!  UMC was all over the Jimmies in the second period outshooting them 27-3 in the period and managing to score twice with Zach Larson (Fresh-Grand Forks, N.D.) and Boetcher getting his second goal to go along with two assists for a four point afternoon and the Golden Eagles led 5-0 after two periods. UMC’s Olstad added to his team leading 13th goal in 13 games to give UMC a 6-0 win. Sumner finishes off the season with his first shutout and with all the underclassmen, another year of recruiting for coach Steve Johnson, the Golden Eagles should serve notice to the ACHA for next season. UMC ends the season at 6-7 while The University of Jamestown is 11-17-2.
