FOUR GOALS IN THE THIRD LEADS WILLISTON STATE COLLEGE TO 7-3 WIN OVER UMC

The University of Minnesota Crookston (UMC) Men’s Club Hockey and the Williston State College Tetons played each other evenly for two period and then the Tetons scored four unanswered goal to win going away 7-3 in an American Club Hockey Association, Division II game in Williston, N.D.

UMC freshman Josh Nelson (East Grand Forks, Mn) scored first on a power play just over two minutes into the game and the Golden Eagles quickly made it 2-0 when Zach Larson (Fresh-Grand Forks Central, N.D.) sniped a shot past the goalie and UMC had a 2-0 lead with just three minutes gone in the game. There was no panic with the Tetons as they responded with two goals within a minute and a half to tie it 2-2 after the first period.
The two teams traded goals in the second period, Williston State College scored first in the first four minutes of the period to take a 3-2 lead. Just about half way through the period, Tyler Zahradka (Fresh-Grand Forks Central, N.D.) scored unassisted to tie the game and the period ended 3-3. The third period was pretty much all Williston State as they scored four goals, three of them on the power play and they outshot UMC 23-10 in the period and winning 7-3 and the third straight win over UMC this season. Williston State College is 11-13 on the season while UMC lost five games in a row and are 2-6 on the season. The two teams will finish off the weekend with a 2:00 PM game at the Pete Conlin Rink in Williston.has lost four games in a row including twice last weekend at home against the University of Mary who is ranked #1 in the ACHA Division II polls. UMC, who in their first year in club hockey is ranked #18 in the same poll and carries a 2-5 overall record. This weekend the Golden Eagles head for Williston, N.D. to play Williston State College tonight. UMC lost twice to Williston State two weekends ago in Crookston, 3-1 and 7-3. The Tetons had a three-game winning streak broken on Wednesday night to #1 U of Mary and Williston State is now 10-13 on the season.  Game time tonight is 7:00 PM at the Pete Conlin Rink in Williston. The two teams will finish off the weekend tomorrow afternoon at 2:00 PM.
