The University of Minnesota Crookston Men’s Golf team is in 10th place after the first round of the Northern Sun Conference Championship played at Shoal Creek Golf Club in Kansas City, Missouri. Winona State is leading the 10-team field with a nine-over par 293. Bemidji State is in second with a 300. UMC shot a 332 (48 over par) and trail Augustana by seven strokes.
UMC is led by Connor Humble (Soph. Rosemount) with a 76, good for a tie for 10th place. Ben Koisti (Sr. Lake Norden, S.D.) and Ben Trostad (Fresh. Crookston) turned in the second-best scores with 85’s and they are tied for 43rd place. Ethan Johnson (Sr. Roseau) shot an 86 and is tied for 47th place, edging teammate Ethan Magsam (Fresh. Crookston) with an 88, good for 48th place.
Minnesota State’s Lukas Bigger sits alone atop the leaderboard after his first round even-par round of 71. Bigger highlighted day one with his hole-in-one on the 198 yard, par 3 at hole 17.
The second 18-holes of the NSIC Championship will begin on Friday morning with tee-time starts at 9 a.m. The third and final round will be a 9 a.m. shotgun start on Saturday. The top five golfers will be named NSIC All-Tournament, while the team champion will earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Central/Midwest Regional, which will be played at Hot Springs Country Club, Arlington Course in Hot Springs, Arkansas on May 9-11. The NCAA Championships will be held May 21-25 at The Resort at Glade Springs, Cobb Course in Daniels, West Virginia, hosted by the Mountain East Conference.
