The University of Minnesota Crookston men’s golf team is in ninth place out of nine teams at their King’s Walk Invite at King’s Walk Golf Course in Grand Forks, N.D.
UMC shot a team score of 310 and was led by Keegan Poppenberg (Fresh. Esko) with a 76, good for a tie for 30th individually. Ben Trostad (Soph. Crookston), Brian Bekkala (Jr. Livonia Mich.) and Connor Humble (Jr. Rosemount) all shot 78’s. Dillon Sannes (Jr. Fertile) shot an 82. UMC’s Josh Olson (Fresh. Fargo, N.D.) shot a 78, Matt Moroz (Fresh. Edmonton, Alberta) shot an 84 and Jonathan Lund (Sr. Tolna, N.D.) shot an 85, all as unattached golfers (unattached means it doesn’t count towards the team score).
Josh Olson (Fr., Fargo, N.D.), golfing unattached, had a solid round with a 78. Matt Moroz (Fr., Edmonton, Alberta) finished with an 84, while Jonathan Lund (Sr., Tolna, N.D.) carded an 85 for the day.
There is a three-way tie for first place with University of Manitoba team 1 and 2 and Concordia College of Moorhead with 288’s. Bemidji State is one stroke back with a 289. Individually, there is a five-way tie for first place with Will Czeh (Roseau) of Bemidji State, Mason Opheim of Concordia Moorhead, Connor Stewart and Cole Peters, both of the University of Manitoba and Chris Swenson of Bemidji State with 69’s. There are three golfers one stroke back.
The second round will be played on Monday.
