UMC SOCCER FALLS IN TIGHTLY CONTESTED MATCH AGAINST MINNESOTA-DULUTH

The UMC Women’s Soccer team played their most aggressive match offensively this year but just could not find the back of the net as the Golden Eagles fall to the Bulldogs of MInnesota-Duluth by a score of 1-0 at the University of Minnesota-Crookston Campus.

FIRST HALF
The Bulldogs of Minnesota-Duluth got off to an aggressive start, as Kaylie Tomzak sent the ball twice towards Jordan Metz in net, but the freshman made sure nothing got by her. In the 8th minute, Morgan Eckerle for the Bulldogs shot one off the crossbar, then followed up with a header, but an unbelievable save by Metz kept it scoreless. In the 16th minute, the Golden Eagles had a breakaway but the shot missed the right post by a few inches. The Bulldogs then upped the ante, forcing Metz to make multiple saves. The Bulldogs finally broke through, scoring in the 21st minute on a goal by Jessica Eischens. The Bulldogs then had another shot hit the post, and the action slowed down for the rest of the first half, with each team getting a corner kick in the final few minutes of the half.

SECOND HALF
UMC came out of the halftime break hoping to be the aggressive team, and got a breakaway attempt in the 51st minute by Callie Holthaus, but it was saved by Chavez. Chavez then made another great save two minutes later, followed by yet another stop on a breakaway, this time by Tyler Chernecki. The Golden Eagles continued to put more pressure on Chavez, but she stepped up to the task each time, recording 4 saves in the first 15 minutes of the half, after 1 in the entire first half. The Golden Eagles had another great look in the 69th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar. Then, UMC had a corner kick in the 74th minute, but the shot was just wide to the left. The Bulldogs attempted to respond with a breakaway by Eckerle, but her shot sailed too high. After a failed ensuing corner, the action stayed in the offensive zone for the Bulldogs until the end of the game, as their stifling defense successfully blanked the Golden Eagles, earning their first win of the season.

UMC after this match has a record of 0-4-1, while the Bulldogs of Minnesota-Duluth get their first win, at 1-4-0.
