UMC SOCCER PLAYS TO A 0-0 DRAW AT BLACK HILLS STATE

The UMC Women’s Soccer team overcame a red card in the 1st half with fantastic goaltending by Jordan Metz to play to a 0-0 draw against Black Hills State in Spearfish, SD.

FIRST HALF
The first half, along with the main theme of this contest, was good defensive play from both sides. Black Hills State were eventually able to break through the stingy Golden Eagle defense, with three shot attempts each by Bailey Smith and Whitney Hansen, but only two of them made it to net, both of them saved by Jordan Metz. The Golden Eagles then got a tough break in the 31st minute, when Kedin Geremiah was shown a red card, forcing the Golden Eagles to conclude the match with ten players on the field. UMC got two shot attempts off, but neither got to Yellowjacket goaltender Zoe Wiggard.

SECOND HALF
Black Hills State decided to make a goaltender switch to start the second half, substituting Wiggard for Allanah Facio. She became the first Yellowjacket goaltender to record a save, on a shot attempt by Madison Lein. The offensive pressure increased dramatically, forcing Metz to make 4 saves in the first 20 minutes of the half. Although the UMC defense did a great job of stopping multiple Yellowjacket offensive attacks, which resulted in 7 Metz saves in the half, the offense was virtually nonexistent, especially after the red card, and the game ultimately concluded in a 0-0 draw.

UMC after this match has a record of 0-2-1, while Black Hills State ends up with a record of 0-2-2.
