UMC Soccer Shut Out By Wayne State

The University of Minnesota Crookston (UMC) women’s soccer team failed to score for the twelfth time in sixteen matches this season falling 6-0 Wayne State Wildcats in an NSIC match played at the Wayne State College Soccer Field in Wayne, Nebraska.
The Wildcats broke through first in the 31st minute when Sophia Ketchmark (Jr., La Vista, NE) sent a cross into the box that Christina Stasi (Sr., Omaha, NE) headed past UMC goalkeeper Athena DiMario Done (Soph., Windsor, Ontario) giving Wayne State a 1-0 lead. In the 42nd minute, Rylie Wehner (Soph., Golden, CO) fired a shot that DiMario Dome was able to block but the rebound fell to the foot of Brooke Buzzell (Sr., Monument, CO) who tapped the ball past the goal line giving the Wildcats a 2-0 lead at halftime.
After being held without a single shot in the first half, things went from bad to worse for Minnesota Crookston in the second half. In the 51st minute, Megan Phillips (Fr., Gillette. WY) cracked a free-kick into the net from 25-yards out giving Wayne State a 3-0 lead. Brooke Buzzell capitalized on another rebound in the 71st minute heading in a loose ball from close range giving the Wildcats a 4-0 lead. In the 75th minute, after DiMario Done made the initial save, the Golden Eagles conceded an own goal on the rebound pushing the hosts ahead 5-0. Wayne State scored their final goal in the 87th minute when Megan Phillips set up Amanda Clements (Fr., Omaha, NE) with a cross through the box which Clements shot into the net from seven yards out the wrap up the 6-0 win in which the Golden Eagles registered just one shot which missed wide in the 85th minute.
The Golden Eagles fall to 1-13-2 overall and 1-10-2 in NSIC play. Minnesota Crookston wraps up its season next weekend with a pair of games beginning with their home finale against Northern Stat beginning at 2 p.m. on Friday in Crookston before traveling to MSU-Moorhead on. Sunday for their final match of the season kicking-off at 1 p.m. Wayne State improves to 4-10-1 overall and 4-8-1 in conference play.
