UMC Soccer Shutout in Last Game in Idaho

The University of Minnesota Crookston Golden Eagle Soccer team dropped its third and final game of their trip to Nampa, Idaho 5-0 falling to the tournament’s host Northwest Nazarene University in Idaho.
Northwest Nazarene utilized a strong start to take command of the match with three goals in the first half. 14:28 into the opening half, the Nighthawks’ Brooke Felzien (Jr., Boise, ID) broke through for a first goal after a pass from Kaisa Tsuruta (Sr., Nelson, New Zealand) set up a shot beating Minnesota Crookston goalkeeper Athena DiMario Done (Soph., Windsor, Ontario) giving the home side a 1-0 lead. The Golden Eagles conceded a second goal under eight minutes later with a strike from Maddy Parton (Jr., Leavenworth, WA) giving NNU a 2-0 advantage. Just before halftime at 38:14 Madi Taylor (Sr., Lewiston, ID) found the back of the net for Northwest Nazarene’s third goal of the half to give the Nighthawks a 3-0 lead at halftime.
In the second half continued where they left off during the opening 45 minutes as Maddy Parton scored a second goal 3:45 into the second half off an assist from Rikki Myers (Soph., Mill Creek, WA). Northwest Nazarene continued to dominate possession the remainder of the match to the tune of twenty-three shots, forcing nine DiMario saves, to just one UMC shot in the match, which was not on goal. In the 82nd minute, the Nighthawks added a fifth goal when Ashley Parton (Fr., Leavenworth, WA) struck home an assist a pass sent by Sierra Sanchez (Blackfoot, ID) growing the lead to 5-0 and that is how the game ended, with a 5-0 score.  It was the second straight game that UMC wasn’t able to get a shot on goal.
The Golden Eagles drop to 0-3 in 2018 and have now gone winless over their last 23 games dating back to October 23, 2016. UMC will continue its search for a win when they open Conference play on Wednesday at Bemidji State at 7:30 p.m.
