The University of Minnesota Crookston soccer team generated just two shots on goal dropping the debut match of new head coach Kyle Halfpop 2-0 against Michigan Tech in a non-Conference game played at the University of Minnesota Crookston Soccer Field.
The Golden Eagles were playing from behind early in the match. Just 10:12 into Minnesota Crookston’s season, Gabby Sgambati (Soph., Farmington Hills, MI) took a pass along the left wing from Stephanie Yeager (New Boston, MI) before dribbling past Golden Eagles’ goalkeeper Athena DiMario Done (Jr., Windsor, Ontario) and chipping a shot into the unoccupied net giving the Huskies a 1-0 lead. DiMario Done stopped the other three shots she faced in the opening half while UMC’s only two shots in the first half were both unsuccessful keeping Michigan Tech ahead 1-0 at halftime.
Minnesota Crookston was unable to generate any offense in the second half, failing to generate a single shot on net. With the Golden Eagles backline facing consistent pressure throughout the final 45 minutes, Michigan Tech broke through for a second goal late in the match as Maisy Snyder (Sr., Ada, MI) scored doubling the visitors’ advantage and helping the Huskies close out a 2-0 win in the 86th minute.
Minnesota Crookston falls to 0-1 and begins conference play on Friday night at Minnesota Duluth at 6:00 P.M. Michigan Tech improves to 2-1-1.
