The University of Minnesota Crookston women’s soccer program announced the signing of three student-athletes to their 2020 signing class. The Golden Eagles have added Jacqueline Calderon (MF, 5-3, Indio, Calif./La Quinta H.S.), Alexia Chairez (D, Cleburne, Texas/Northeast Texas College) and Madelyn Teplansky (5-3, MF, Apple Valley, Calif./Apple Valley H.S.) to their 2020 class.
Alexia Chairez (D, Cleburne, Texas/Northeast Texas College)
Chairez competed for Northeast Texas College in Mount Pleasant, Texas. She is a junior college teammate of Golden Eagle senior Katie Emmett. As a sophomore, Chairez started 12 games and appeared in 14 for Northeast Texas College. She had one assist and one shot on goal for the 2019 season. Chairez helped Northeast Texas College to a 10-8-1 record in 2019. As a member of the back line for Northeast Texas College, she helped her squad to a 1.72 goals against average and two shutouts. As a freshman in 2017, Chairez helped Northeast Texas College to a 9-7 mark. She appeared in 15 games as a freshman and started 14 for the Eagles. Chairez tallied one assist and one shot on goal. As a freshman, she aided Northeast Texas College to a 1.31 goals against average and an impressive six shutouts. “I’m excited to welcome Alexia to the Golden Eagle Family,” said Head Coach Kyle Halfpop. “She is someone we’ve been after for a long time. She brings a lot of experience and knowledge to the game and that is what we need. She is incredibly fit and athletic. Alexia is aggressive in her play both in defending and when she gets involved in the attack. She fits the mold as far as a player that fits the identity we are trying to build. I can’t wait to work with her and help continue her development as a player and person.”
She plans to major in health sciences at Minnesota Crookston. Chairez was born Aug. 1, 1999.
Jacqueline Calderon (MF, 5-3, La Quinta, Calif./La Quinta H.S.)
Calderon was the captain of the varsity team at La Quinta H.S. She was named her team’s Most Valuable Player. Calderon earned All-Desert Empire League. As a senior at La Quinta H.S., Calderon tallied five goals and four assists with 14 points overall in 18 games played. She had two goals in a 4-0 win over Palm Spring H.S. She also scored goals against Palm Desert H.S., Xavier Prep H.S., and Desert Hot Springs H.S. Calderon notched assists versus Desert Hot Springs H.S., Chaparral H.S., Palm Springs H.S., and Shadow Hills H.S. She helped La Quinta H.S., to a 12-5-1 mark during her senior season. She earned academic honors at La Quinta H.S., and Cum Laude Academic Honors. She was a captain for the La Quinta varsity soccer team. Calderon earned All-Desert Empire League Second Team accolades. “I’m very happy to welcome Jackie to the Golden Eagle Family!,” Halfpop said. “She is a high energy player that can read the game very well. She is confident and calm on the ball and allows her technical ability to dictate the tempo from the middle of the field. She excels in tight spaces and is constantly able to get herself free and find teammates. Jackie has a lot of potential that I’m excited to tap into. She is eager to learn and her passion for the game is undeniable.”
She is the daughter of Virginia Ortega and Jesse Calderon. Calderon plans to major in accounting. She was born May 26, 2002.
Madelyn Teplansky (MF, 5-5, Apple Valley, Calif./Apple Valley H.S.)
Teplansky played club soccer for the Apple Valley Storm. She helped her high school squad to a 17-5-3 mark during her senior season at Apple Valley H.S., in Apple Valley, Calif. As a senior, Teplansky scored five goals and had two assists in 23 games. During her junior season, Teplansky notched three goals and one assist. She scored goals as a senior against Royal H.S., Sultana H.S., Burroughs H.S., Hesperia H.S., and Oxnard H.S. Teplansky notched assists during her final prep season versus Ontario H.S., and Hesperia H.S. She had 30 shot attempts as a senior. “Maddie is a big addition to our 2020 class,” Halfpop said. “I am really excited for her to join us as we hit it off right away in the recruiting process. Her desire to compete and play at a high level will shine through and I think she will be someone that sets the tone for us. She is a versatile player that can play in different roles on the field. She has a great soccer IQ and can read the game very well. She is used to dictating tempo and taking risks and that is something that fits into what we are building here. Welcome Maddie to the Golden Eagle Family.”
Teplansky was born Sept. 15, 2002. She is the daughter of Leigh and Greg Teplansky. Teplansky plans to major in biology. Her aunt Regina Miller was a women’s soccer goalie at Hope University. She grew up playing soccer and the piano. She loves being able to express herself as an athlete, as well as a musician.
