UMC SOCCER SNAPS SCORING DROUGHT IN LOSS TO NORTHERN STATE

The University of Minnesota Crookston (UMC) Women’s soccer team scored their first goal in six matches in a 6-1 loss against the Northern State Wolves in an NSIC match played at the Athletic and Recreation Fields Complex in Aberdeen, SD.

Just 8:35 into the match, Northern State’s Shianne Rosselli sent a pass to Katinka Ummels (Fr., Urmond, Netherlands) who fired a shot into the net giving the Wolves a 1-0 lead. In the 33rd minute, Jocelin Martinez (Soph., Arroyo Grande, CA) scored doubling Northern State’s lead. Shianne Rosselli (Sr., Corona, CA) closed out the first half just 1:03 before halftime giving the Wolves a 3-0 lead at halftime. Minnesota Crookston scored their first goal in six matches just 2:26 into the second half after Paige Pettit (Sr., St. Michael) delivered the ball to Kiya Gere (Soph., Vancouver, WA) who deposited her shot into the net trimming the Golden Eagles’ deficit down to 3-1. Northern State responded with a goal from midfield just four seconds later on a lengthy effort from Mallory Schoenhard (Jr., Rapid City, SD) giving the Wolves a 4-1 lead. The Wolves added one final goal in the 81st minute when Mallory Schoenhard netted her second finish giving Northern State a 5-1 lead. The Wolves added one last goal in the final minute closing out a 6-1 win.

Minnesota Crookston falls to 0-13 overall and 0-12 in conference play. The Golden Eagles return to the pitch on Sunday when UMC hosts MSU-Moorhead 12:00 P.M. Northern State improves to 4-10-1 overall and 2-9-1 in NSIC matches.
