The University of Minnesota Crookston Golden Eagles Softball team traveled to Grand Forks, North Dakota, and lost 3-0 to the University of North Dakota Fighting Hawks in a non-conference game.
FIRST INNING
UMC’s Whitnee Curry reached on an error with one out before the next two batters were retired. UND’s leadoff batter walked, and the next batter singled. After two fielder’s choice plays, UND singled to score a run for a 1-0 lead.
SECOND INNING
UMC was retired in 1-2-3 fashion. UND added another run in the second inning with a one-out double and a two-out single for a 2-0 lead.
THIRD INNING
UMC was retired in 1-2-3 fashion. The first two UND players were retired before a walk. The next batter struck out, and UND took a 2-0 lead into the fourth inning.
FOURTH INNING
The first UMC batter flew out before Shaelyn Grant and Haley Koch singled. The next batter hit into a fielder’s choice, which was followed by a strikeout, and UMC’s threat was done. UND’s leadoff batter walked, and the next batter reached on an error. The next three batters were retired.
FIFTH INNING
The first two UMC batters grounded out and struck out before Maddi Shwaluk walked. The next batter grounded out. UND’s leadoff batter walked again. After a single, the next batter lined out. The next two batters walked to score a run, and UND led 3-0.
SIXTH INNING
UMC’s Curry led off the inning with a walk, and after an out, Koch singled before a double play, and the Golden Eagle threat was over. The first two UND players grounded out before a double and a walk. The next batter struck out.
SEVENTH INNING
UMC went to the bench in the seventh inning to give some other players a chance to get an at-bat against a D1 team, and all three batters were retired, and UND won the game 3-0.
UMC drops to 14-34 on the year and will host MSU-Moorhead on Thursday. UND improves to 12-36 on the year.
