Students in the landscape installation class installed their sensory path designs at Castle Park in the past two weeks. They coordinated this effort with Kirsten Fagerlund at Polk County Public Health and Amanda Lien. Sensory paths are designed to help kids with sensory processing disorders and those learning how to be mobile on different surfaces. The class is taught by Associate Professor Eric Castle.
CONSERVATION PRESENTATION
Faculty, staff and students took advantage of a visit by Larry Nielsen, professor emeritus of natural resources at North Carolina State University who was on campus Tuesday, October 15 speaking about “Lessons from the Great Conservationists of the Past.” This lecture/seminar is based on the book, Nature’s Allies—8 Conservationists Who Changed our World authored by Nielsen that emphasizes the contributions of women and under-represented groups.
DIVERSITY DISCUSSIONS
Michael Goh, professor and vice president for equity and diversity was at the University of Minnesota Crookston on Wednesday, October 16. It was an opportunity for faculty, staff, and students to participate in discussions around intercultural competence and equity, diversity, and inclusion. Through his experiences as a doctoral student, faculty member, associate vice provost for equity and diversity, along with his work as interim, and now, vice president for equity and diversity, he understands the challenges and unique environment of the university setting. “I want to walk alongside any and all of you as we engage in this work,” Goh says, a comment that defines Goh’s focus on people and his desire to serve.
