The University of Minnesota Crookston (UMC) invites community members to become a part of the Community Host Program. The Office of Student & Family Experience will be sponsoring its second year of the program designed to facilitate informal friendships between UMC students and members of the Crookston community.
The Community Host Program matches a member of the Crookston community with a student (or two) and encourages periodic communication and interaction. The Office of Student & Family Experience hosts sponsored events throughout the academic year for hosts and their student(s), but what occurs beyond these events is up to the host and student(s). Any community member can be a host. Anyone interested in learning more about being a Community Host, contact Aaron Meyer or Brooke Novak at 218-281-8585 or acmeyer@crk.umn.edu by Friday, August 31.
Examples of activities shared by hosts and students include Golden Eagle athletic events, outdoor adventures, and outings to local attractions or restaurants, etc.
The Community Host Program aims to create a home-away-from-home for students by connecting them with local community members. The program can help ease the transition to college life for new students, and offer international students an interesting view of American culture; however, the program is open to any and all interested students.
Sponsored events include the following:
· Welcome Week Meet & Greet in September
· Family & Community Day, September 29th
· Dine at Ma Brown at your leisure
· Winter Gathering in January
· International Dinners in March/April
· End of the year wrap up event in April
