The University of Minnesota Crookston Golden Eagles Volleyball team ended another tough weekend falling to Northern State in three games this afternoon, 25-12, 25-13, 25-15.
SET ONE
Northern State jumped out to a 5-1 lead to start the match. UMC battled back to get within a 10-7 deficit after a Lauren Wallace kill. Northern State responded with a 7-1 run for a 17-8 lead. Northern State continued to dominate the rest of the set as they finished on an 8-4 run to cruise to a 25-12 victory for a 1-0.
SET TWO
UMC had a good start to the second set and scored the first three points of the set with a kill from Lauren Wallace, a Natalie Koke service ace and a Wolves passing error a 3-0 lead. Northern State battled back to tie the match at 4-4, 5, and 6. UMC answered with three points including two kills and a Northern State attack error for a 9-6 lead. A problem that has plagued UMC all season long is they give up a big run that costs them the match and this set was another perfect example. Northern State went on a 14-2 run to take a 20-11 lead and they cruised to a 25-13 victory to take a 2-0 lead.
SET THREE
Northern State took the momentum from the second set and built a 6-2 lead to start the third set. The teams played even for a while and Northern State led 12-9 before they scored four points for a 16-9 lead. The Golden Eagles responded with a 3-1 run before Northern State scored six straight points for a 23-12 lead. UMC tried to mount a comeback with three straight points with two kills and a service ace, but Northern State scored two more points to win 25-15 for 3-0 match victory.
UMC lost both games this weekend and now have lost 11 in a row and are 1-15 on the year and 0-11 in the powerful Northern Sun Conference! Northern State made it a sweep on the weekend and raised their record to 12-7 overall and 7-4 in the conference. The Golden Eagles will be on the road next weekend traveling to Minot State on Friday night and then to Bismarck, N.D for a Saturday afternoon match with the University of Mary.
