UMC Volleyball Falls Short at St. Cloud State

The University of Minnesota Crookston (UMC) Golden Eagle volleyball team started Northern Sun Conference with a 3-0 (25-15, 25-19, 25-16) loss to St. Cloud State University at Halenbeck Hall in St. Cloud.
In the first set, St. Cloud State jumped out to a 4-0 victory and after three straight UMC points the Huskies answered with another 4-0 run for an 8-3 lead.  St. Cloud State slowly pulled away the rest of the set for a 25-15 victory for a 1-0 match lead.
The second set was more of the same as St. Cloud State jumped out to a 6-1 lead while taking advantage of UMC errors.  The Golden Eagles settled in with a 6-1 run of their own to tie the set at 7-7.  St. Cloud State led 13-12 when they went on a 5-0 run for an 18-12 lead and they were able to hold off a UMC rally to win 25-19 for a 2-0 lead in the match.
St. Cloud State started the third set on a 7-1 run and once again, Crookston battled back with a 7-3 run to get within an 11-8 deficit.  St. Cloud State settled down and pulled away for a 25-16 win for a 3-0 match victory.
The Golden Eagles fall to 2-7 overall and 0-1 in the NSIC and will host #6 ranked Minnesota Duluth on Saturday. St. Cloud State improves to 5-2 overall and 1-0 NSIC.
