UMC VOLLEYBALL FALLS TO FORT HAYS STATE AND CHADRON STATE

The University of Minnesota Crookston Golden Eagle Volleyball team made too many hitting errors in a set of 3-0 losses to Fort Hays State and Chadron State at the Colorado State in Pueblo Showcase at Massari Arena.

UMC vs FORT HAYS STATE
UMC battled but couldn’t close out the set as Fort Hays State won the match 3-0. 

GAME ONE
UMC started the season with a service ace from Natalie Koke for a 1-0 lead.  The teams would battle the rest of the game with ties at 1, 2, 7, 8, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, and 16.  Fort Hays took the lead for good when UMC had a bad pass, which was followed by a big kill for an 18-16 lead.  Fort Hays led 22-21 and finished the set on a three-point run with a UMC service error, followed by a Fort Hays ace and a kill and the Golden Eagles lost the first set 25-21.

GAME TWO – 
UMC took a 1-0 lead for the second straight game when Fort Hays had a service error, but the lead didn’t last long as Fort Hays answered with five straight points for a 5-1 lead.  Fort Hays expanded their lead to 10-3 and slowly pulled away for a 24-13 victory for a 2-0 lead in the match.

GAME THREE – 
Fort Hays came out strong in the third game with four straight points behind a couple of kills, a UMC attack error, and a service ace. UMC battled back with several kills from Lauren Wallace and tied the game at 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, and 10.  UMC had a service error and that sparked a four-point run for Fort Hays State and they had a 14-10 lead. UMC responded with a four-point run of their own with three kills from three different players to tie the game at 14.  After a tie at 15, the teams exchanged points and Fort Hays led 20-19.  Fort Hays finished the match strong with a five-point run to win the game 25-19 and the match by a 3-0 score.

UMC vs CHADRON STATE –
The UMC Golden Eagles had too many attack errors and lost all three games by 25-17 scores in a 3-0 loss to Chadron State.

GAME ONE –
Chadron State came out hot and jumped out to a 6-1 lead to start the match.  Chadron continued their domination to start the match as they took a 12-3 lead. UMC wasn’t able to recover from their slow start as Chadron State cruised to a 25-17 victory for a 1-0 lead in the match.

GAME TWO –
Chadron State jumped out to a 3-1 lead and later a 6-3 lead before UMC scored two points to get within a 6-5 deficit.  Chadron State bounced back with an 8-2 run for a 14-7 lead, forcing UMC to call a timeout.  The timeout seemed to settle the Golden Eagles down as they responded with a 6-3 run to get within a 17-13 deficit.  The teams exchanged points before Chadron State ended the game on a 7-3 run, including a huge kill on the game-winner for a 25-17 victory to take a 2-0 lead in the match.

GAME THREE –
UMC took a 2-1 lead to start game three and led 3-2 before Chadron State went on a 5-0 run for a 7-3 lead.  Chadron continued to pull away and built a 16-7 lead.  UMC finally broke the run with a kill and that sparked a 6-3 run to get within a 19-13 deficit.  Chadron State ended the match on a 6-4 run to win the set 25-17 to win the match 3-0.

UMC drops to 0-2 on the season and will play two more matches on Saturday at the Colorado State-Pueblo tournament.
