It was quite a weekend for the University of Minnesota Crookston (UMC) Volleyball team was overmatched in a 3-0 loss against #8 St. Cloud State in an NSIC match played at Lysaker Gymnasium in Crookston.
St. Cloud State won the first six points of the match. Melissa Rodriguez (Sr., Sarchi Sur, Costa Rica) earned a kill to cut the Pirates deficit down to 6-1. Rodriguez served an ace bring the Golden Eagles within 6-2. Minnesota Crookston pulled within 8-5 after three straight attacking error. St. Cloud State rattled off four straight points pulling ahead 16-8. The Huskies went on to pull ahead 21-10. St. Cloud State cruised the rest of the set winning 25-18.
The Huskies rolled in the second set jumping out to a 7-1 lead. St. Cloud State gained an 11-3 lead before further increasing their lead 17-4. The Huskies won the final eight points of the set winning 25-5.
Tied at 5-5 in the third set, St. Cloud State won 11 straight points taking a 16-5 lead. Minnesota Crookston pulled within 23-14 and then 24-20, but St. Cloud State closed out the sweep 25-20.
Minnesota Crookston falls to 4-13 overall and 2-7 in conference play. The Golden Eagles return to the court when UMC travels to Sioux Falls to take on the Cougars at 6:00 P.M.
