UMC VOLLEYBALL WINS A FIVE SET THRILLER OVER MINOT STATE

The University of Minnesota Crookston Golden Eagle Volleyball team won the fifth set 15-13 in a 3-2 victory over the Minot State Beavers in a Northern Sun Conference match played at Lysaker Gymnasium in Crookston.

SET ONE –
Minot State came out ready to play and jumped out to a 7-2 lead. UMC slowly chipped away at the lead and tied the set at 16. Minot State scored the next four points to take a 20-16 lead before UMC tied the set at 23. Minot State won the set after a UMC service error and a Beaver kill for a 25-23 for a 1-0 lead.

SET TWO –
Minot State had another quick start and took a 10-3 lead. It looked like Minot State was going to win the set with a 24-19 lead. UMC started a big 7-0 run with a Porsha Porath kill, followed by a Meli Rodriguez kill and two Minot State attack errors to get within a one-point deficit at 24-23, forcing a timeout. UMC continued their stellar comeback with a Sydney Kruisselbrink kill to tie the set at 24. The Golden Eagles took the lead after a Minot State attack error and they won the set on a Lauren Wallace kill for a 26-24 victory to tie the set at 1-1.

SET THREE –
Minot State jumped out to another early lead with a 5-1 run to start the set. UMC battled back to tie the set at 9 and the teams were tied at 10 before Minot State regained the lead for good and won the set 25-23 for a 2-1 lead in the match.

SET FOUR –
Minot State jumped out a 5-2 lead before UMC answered with three-point, including a kill by Porath to tie the set at 5. UMC slowly pulled away the rest of the set for a 25-18 victory to tie the match at 2-2.

SET FIVE –
The set as tied at 2, 3, 6 and 7 before UMC took a 9-7 lead behind a Meli Rodrigeuz kill and a Minot State attack error. UMC continued to hold the lead with a 13-11 edge before Minot State scored three straight points for a 14-13 lead and the Beavers were serving for match point. Minot State had an attack error and followed it up with a kill for a 15-14 lead, forcing UMC to call a time out. The time outworked as Meli Rodriguez had a kill to tie the set at 15. Minot State had an attack error and UMC was serving for match point. UMC won the set and match with a Sabrina Leuer kill for a 17-15 victory to win the match 3-2.

UMC improves to 4-12 overall and 2-6 in the NSIC. Minot State drops to 1-16 overall and 0-8 in the NSIC.
