The University of Minnesota Crookston (UMC) Golden Eagle Volleyball team dropped their sixth match in a row losing to Bemidji State 3-1 (22-25, 25-13, 25-21, 25-17) in an NSIC match played at Lysaker Gymnasium in Crookston.
FIRST SET –
In the opening set, Bemidji State jumped out to an early 8-4 lead. Minnesota Crookston rallied to win five of the next seven points pulling within 10-9. A kill by Lauren Wallace (R-Soph., Bloomington, MN) gave the Golden Eagles a 12-11 lead. A Porsha Porath (Soph., Windom) kill followed by a Beavers’ attacking error pushed Minnesota Crookston’s lead to 16-14. After Bemidji State took three-straight points and a 17-16 lead, the Golden Eagles responded by winning six straight points to take a 22-17 lead capped off by an ace served by Melissa Rodriguez (Sr., Sarchi Sur, Costa Rica). After Bemidji State cut their deficit down to 24-22, Lauren Wallace ended the set with a kill giving UMC a 1-0 lead winning the first set 25-22.
SECOND SET –
Bemidji State jumped out to a 6-1 lead in the second set and never looked back. Minnesota Crookston pulled within one twice in the middle of the set, but Bemidji State extended an 11-10 lead to 17-10 before closing out the set 25-13 to tie the match at 1-1.
THIRD SET –
Both teams traded points early in the set before a Melissa Rodriguez kill gave the Golden Eagles a 14-13 lead. Sydney Kruisselbrink (Jr., Rochester) served an ace later in the set giving the Golden Eagles a 16-15 advantage. Trailing 17-16, Bemidji State won six straight points taking a 22-17 lead. UMC pulled within 23-20, but the Beavers hung on to win the set 25-21.
FOURTH SET –
In the fourth set, UMC led 5-3, but Bemidji State rallied to take a 7-5 lead. Leading 13-12, the Beavers won four straight points taking a 17-12 lead. Bemidji State cruised the rest of the set, closing out a four-set win taking the fourth set 25-17.
Minnesota Crookston falls to 4-18 overall and 2-12 in conference play. UMC returns to action Saturday when the Golden Eagles travel to Duluth to take on UMD at 4:00 P.M. Bemidji State improves to 7-15 overall and 4-10 in the NSIC.
