UMC VOLLEYBALL SIGNS A PLAYER FROM NEBRASKA

The University of Minnesota Crookston (UMC) volleyball program announced the addition of Layne Whaley (DS/Lib., 5-8, Ashland, Neb./Ashland-Greenwood H.S.). Whaley is the first signee for the 2021 class for the Golden Eagles.

Whaley was a four-year varsity letter winner for Ashland-Greenwood H.S. She was an All-Omaha Area Honorable Mention selection. Whaley helped her team claim a district championship in 2020 and led them to the Class B State semifinals. On their way to the semifinals, Whaley helped Ashland-Greenwood H.S. to their first-ever win at the state volleyball tournament. She was a Nebraska All-Class Honorable Mention pick. Whaley earned the 2018 and 2019 NSAA Academic All-State Award. She helped her squad to the 2019 Malcolm Tournament Championship. Whaley is at the top of her senior class academically of 80 students.

“We are very excited to add Layne to the Golden Eagle Volleyball program, she will bring a high level of ball control and competitiveness to our team,” said Head Coach Sarah Morgan. “Layne has had success on the court and in the classroom, and we can’t wait to see what she will add to our team and University!”
Whaley is the daughter of Deborah and Rory Whaley. She was born June 23, 2003. Whaley plans to major in biology and chemistry (pre-medicine). Her father Rory Whaley played college football and baseball at the University of Nebraska Omaha.
