UMC VOLLEYBALL WINS A SET, BUT FALLS TO #12 SW MN STATE

The University of Minnesota Crookston Golden Eagle Volleyball team won a set, but the Southwest Minnesota State Mustangs were too strong on their way to a 3-1 (25-13, 25-17, 25-27, 25-14) victory in a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference match played in Marshall, Minnesota.

SET ONE –
Southwest Minnesota State jumped out to a 7-2 lead capping the run with back-to-back service aces. UMC answered with three straight points after a Mustang service error and back-to-back kills from Sydney Kruisselbrink and Porsha Porath to get within a 7-5 deficit. The teams exchanged points for a while and Southwest led 15-12 before they went on a 10-1 run the rest of the set as they cruised to a 25-13 victory to take a 1-0 lead in the match.

SET TWO –
Southwest jumped out to a 4-1 lead behind three kills and an ace. UMC trailed by anywhere from three to five points until they put a mini-run together and tied the set at 12 and again at 13 behind a balanced Golden Eagle attack. Once again, Southwest finished the set strong, on a 12-4 run to win 25-17 for a 2-0 lead in the match.

SET THREE –
The third set was the most competitive of the match with the teams tied at 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 11, 12, 14, 15, 16, 17, 19, 21, 22, 23, 24, and 25!!! UMC finished the set strong with kills from Deaira Gresham and Sydney Kruisselbrink for a 27-25 victory to win the set 27-25 and UMC forced a fourth set, trailing 2-1.

SET FOUR –
The teams were in a good battle again in the fourth set, early on. They were tied at 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6. Southwest went on a 10-4 run to build a 16-10 lead. The teams exchanged points and Southwest led 20-14 before ending the set on a 5-0 run to win the set 25-14 and the match 3-1.

The University of Minnesota Crookston (UMC) Golden Eagles Volleyball team drops to 4-15 overall and 2-9 in the NSIC.  Southwest Minnesota State improves to 13-6 overall, 7-4 in the NSIC.
