UMC WOMEN’S BASKETBALL HAS 10 AND MEN HAVE 2 NAMED TO ALL-ACADEMIC TEAM

The University of Minnesota Crookston had 12 student-athletes named to the 2019-20 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Winter All-Academic Team. The Golden Eagles were represented by two men’s basketball players and 10 women’s basketball players named to the prestigious team.

Eight of the 12 student-athletes named to the NSIC Winter All-Academic Team garnered NSIC All-Academic Team of Excellence accolades.

UMC Men’s Basketball’s Chase Johnson (Sr., La Crosse, Wis.), and Harrison Cleary (Sr., Oak Creek, Wis.) were named to the team.

UMC Women’s Basketball’s Jennifer Lax (Jr., Sleepy Eye), Stephanie McWilliams (Sr., Grand Forks, N.D.), Bren Fox (So., F/C, Norwood Young America), Kylie Post (So., G, Corcoran, Minn.), Kylea Praska (So., Thief River Falls), Amber Schoenicke (Sr., F/C, Marshall, Wis.), Paige Weakley (Sr., G, Kearney, Mo.), Paige Cornale (So., G, Oak Creek, Wis.), Ashley Freund (Jr., F, Jordan), and Julia Peplinski (So., F/C, Hustisford, Wis.) were named to the team.

The Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference announced that 692 student-athletes have earned NSIC All-Academic honors for the 2019-20 winter athletic season; 400 student-athletes were named to the NSIC All-Academic Team of Excellence, while 292 earned NSIC All-Academic Team honors. To be eligible for the NSIC All-Academic Team of Excellence, a student-athlete must have a 3.60 cumulative GPA or higher, while NSIC All-Academic Team members must have a 3.20 cumulative GPA or higher. Additionally, the student-athlete must be a member of the varsity traveling team, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at her/his institution (true freshmen, red-shirt freshmen and ineligible athletic transfers are not eligible) and must have completed at least one full academic year at that institution.
