The University of Minnesota Duluth (UMC) Golden Eagles Women’s Basketball came into Crookston with one thought on their mind. To at least tie for the Northern Division lead on the last day of the season with a win at Minnesota Crookston! The Bulldogs came in tied with St. Cloud State and the Huskies playing Bemidji State and expecting St. Cloud State to come away with a victory they knew they needed a win. With that knowledge the Bulldogs jumped all over UMC 35-19 at half time with turnovers causing UMC problems and turning into baskets for the once ranked #17 Bulldogs. Minnesota Duluth made sure there was no comeback for the Golden Eagles as they outscored UMC 31-21 in the third quarter, building up 26 point lead and coasted to the 81-60 win on the road.
UMC finishes the season with a 4-19 record and 3-14 in the Northern Sun Conference plus they lose four players who’ve played their last season for UMC, Mary Burke (Mountain Iron-Buhl), Kylie Post (Maranatha Christian Academy, Brooklyn Park), Kylie Praska (Thief River Falls) and Mattea Vetsch (Devils Lake, N.D.).
Minnesota Duluth has now won 13 games in a row and have a 21-4 record and 19-2 in the conference. With St. Cloud State beating Bemidji State this afternoon and the Huskies owning two wins over the Bulldogs during the regular season, Duluth will be the number two seed in the North, behind St. Cloud State.
