UMC WOMEN’S BASKETBALL LOSES ON THE ROAD TO MSU MOORHEAD 75-52

The University of Minnesota Crookston Golden Eagle Women’s Basketball team fell on the road to the Minnesota State Moorhead Dragons, 75-52, at Alex Nemzek Fieldhouse in Moorhead. 

FIRST QUARTER –
UMC would get off to a good start as Emma Miller (Soph. Albertville, MN) hit a floater followed by a layup from Janie Tormanen (Soph. Menahga, MN) to give UMC an early 4-2 lead. The Golden Eagles pulled ahead with Riley Jenkins (R-Fresh. Galesburg, IL) hitting a three, then Olivia Walsh (Fresh. Austin, MN) made a lay-up, and Miller also got a lay-up to give UMC an 11-4 lead. Hope Dudycha (R-Fresh. Austin, MN) knocked down a three to give UMC a 14-9 lead. The Dragons responded with a 14-0 run to go up 23-14. Tormanen and Dudycha would get back-to-back baskets to make it 23-18. MSUM would hit a pair of baskets to enter the second with a 28-18 lead. 

SECOND QUARTER –
In the second, MSUM would get their lead up to 34-18 before Jenkins buried another three. Miller and Dudycha both got lay-ups later in the quarter and then Ainsley McLain (Fresh. Grafton, ND) hit a three to make it 36-28. The Dragons went on an 8-0 run to make it 44-28. Walsh and Tormanen would get back-to-back baskets for UMC, but MSUM answered with another 8-0 run to make it 52-32 at the half. 

THIRD QUARTER –
In the third, the defenses buckled down for both sides as it would be the lowest-scoring quarter in the game. Miller hit a three and a lay-up early to trim the Dragons lead down to 54-37. Miller hit two more free throws before Lily Orazem (Jr. Onamia, MN) made a lay-up to make it 61-42. MSUM would add a late basket to make it 63-42 entering the fourth quarter. 

FOURTH QUARTER –
To open the final quarter, Miller hit a three, and Rayna Klejeski (Fresh. Barnum, MN) made a lay-up to make it 65-47. MSUM went on another 8-0 run before Walsh and Jenkins each made lay-ups. UMC was held scoreless for over four minutes before Dudycha hit a free throw at the end of the game. MSUM would win 75-52. 

UMC drops to 9-12 on the season and 6-9 in NSIC play. The Golden Eagles will play St. Cloud State on Thursday on KROX. MSUM improves to 8-12 on the season and 8-7 in conference play. The Dragons will face Bemidji State on Saturday.
