The University of Minnesota Crookston Golden Eagle Women’s Basketball team trailed 8-0 to start the game and they never recovered in a 95-32 loss to the Concordia-St. Paul Golden Bears in a game played at the Gangelhoff Center in St. Paul.
FIRST QUARTER
Concordia-St. Paul made their first three shots and a free throw and scored the first eight points of the game for a quick 8-0 lead. UMC scored the first points with a Jes Mertens (Fresh. Devils Lake, ND) basket with 7:20 left in the quarter. Concordia-St. Paul continued to dominate the quarter the rest of the way and took a 21-10 lead into the second quarter.
SECOND QUARTER
Concordia-St. Paul started the second quarter on a 17-0 run to take a 38-10 lead with 5:51 left in the first half. UMC’s first points of the quarter were scored by Kylie Post (Jr. Corcoran) with 5:22 remaining. Concordia-St. Paul continued to roll and took a 47-16 lead into halftime.
THIRD QUARTER
Concordia-St. Paul only scored the first four points of the third quarter before UMC’s Mary Burke (Soph. Virginia) scored, which was followed by a Mertens basket and the Golden Eagles trailed 51-20. Concordia-St. Paul answered with a 13-0 run to take a 64-20 lead with 2:50 left in the quarter and took a 64-22 lead into the fourth quarter.
FOURTH QUARTER
Concordia-St. Paul started the fourth quarter on a 9-1 run to take a 73-23 lead with 7:34 to go in the game. The Golden Bears cruised the rest of the game and won 95-32.
UMC drops to 0-1 on the year and Concordia-St. Paul improves to 1-0. The teams will play again at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday in St. Paul.
