ST. CLOUD STATE USES BIG FOURTH QUARTER TO BEAT UMC WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

The University of Minnesota Crookston (UMC) Golden Eagles Women’s Basketball team was outscored 20-7 in the fourth quarter in a 72-55 loss to the St. Cloud State Huskies in a Northern Sun Conference game played at Halenbeck Hall in St. Cloud.

FIRST QUARTER
St. Cloud State jumped out to a 7-2 lead to start the game, but UMC settled in and picked up their offense with an Alyssa Peterson three-pointer, a Bren Fox (Jr. Norwood Young America) basket, and a Kylie Post (Jr. Corcoran) three-pointer for a 10-7 lead with over four minutes left in the quarter.   UMC finished the quarter with a 15-12 lead.

SECOND QUARTER
UMC had a good start to the second quarter with an Emma Carpenter three-pointer for an 18-12 lead.  St. Cloud State dominated the next four minutes and took a 22-20 lead with 6:09 left in the half.  The teams were tied at 22, 24, 26, and UMC took a 32-30 lead into halftime.

THIRD QUARTER
There were several ties in the first five minutes of the quarter with ties at 39, 41, and 43.  UMC went on a 5-2 run to take a 48-45 lead after Kylie Post layup with 2:15 left, but St. Cloud State ended the quarter on a 4-0 run to take a 52-48.

FOURTH QUARTER
St. Cloud State blew the game open in the fourth quarter by going on a 16-3 run in the first seven-plus minutes of the quarter and ended up coasting to a 72-55 victory.

UMC drops to 3-11 overall and 3-9 in the NSIC.  They will wrap up the season hosting Bemidji State on Friday, February 19, and Saturday, February 20.   St. Cloud State improves to 9-3 overall and 6-2 in the NSIC.
