UMC WOMEN’S GOLF PROGRAM SIGNS JUCO TRANSFER FROM MADISON, MN

The University of Minnesota Crookston women’s golf program announced the signing of Abby Stender (Madison, Minn./Iowa Lakes Community College) to a National Letter of Intent.

Stender competed the last two seasons for Iowa Lakes C.C., in Estherville, Iowa. Stender led the Lakers with a Top 15 finish at TPC Deere Run October 14, 2019 with rounds of 95 and 89. She led Iowa Lakes C.C. to a second-place finish at the Red Tail Shootout in Waterloo, Iowa Sept. 27, 2019 by tying for second with an 85. Stender had her best round of the season by shooting 79 at the North Iowa Area Community College Fall Invite Sept. 13, 2019 in Mason City, Iowa. Stender placed second at the Iowa Lakes Fall Invitational in Okoboji, Iowa, by shooting rounds of 83 and 84. Stender carded rounds of 87 and 88 to lead the Lakers to a 12th-place finish during her freshman season at the NJCAA National Championships at LPGA International in Daytona Beach, Fla. She was a Second Team All-Region selection as a freshman for Iowa Lakes C.C. Stender shot an 83 and a nine-hole 46 at the NJCAA Regional Tournament April 27, 2019 in Ankeny, Iowa. She carded a second-round score of 81 at the Iowa Central Spring Invite April 16, 2019. Stender also shot an 81 in the second round of the St. Mary/Midland University Spring Invitational in Fremont, Neb. April 3, 2019. She shot an 84 and an 85 at the Crossroads of America Invite in Wentzville, Mo. Oct. 16, 2018. Stender carded an 89 as she helped the Lakers to a first-place finish at the Region XI Fall Preview Oct. 12, 2018. She shot a pair of 87’s at the Bent Tree Intercollegiate in Council Bluffs, Iowa Oct. 4, 2018. Stender led the team with an 83 and an 81 at the Frommelt Classic in Sioux City, Iowa Sept. 16, 2018. She opened up her collegiate career by carding an 84 at the NIACC Fall Invitational Sept. 10, 2018. Stender competed as a prep at Lac qui Parle Valley H.S. She was an All-State selection in 2017 and 2018. Stender was the Camden Conference Champion in 2017 and she finished eighth at state in 2017. Stender was a six-time varsity letter winner.
“I’m beyond excited to add Abby onto our team this upcoming year,” Head Coach Bryant Friskop said. “Abby is a player that brings collegiate experience and has the ability to shoot in the 70’s for us. Her work ethic is one thing that really stood out to me in the recruiting process and her passion to get better has impressed me. I think Abby will be a huge part of what we’re trying to do here with the women’s golf program and she’s going to help us these next two years in taking steps in the right direction to be that competitive team we’re striving to be.”
