WINONA STATE TWO SECOND HALF GOALS RALLIES FOR 3-1 WIN OVER UMC SOCCER

The University of Minnesota Crookston (UMC) Golden Eagles scored their first goal of the season but it wasn’t enough as Winona State used two second-half goals to secure a 3-1 win in an NSIC game played on the UMC Soccer Field.

Winona State scored 17:09 into the match when Jaida Weige (Fr., Coon Rapids) scored off an assist by Courtney Wiencek (Sr., Mequon, WI) giving the Warriors a 1-0 lead. Maggie Peterson (Jr., Princeton) tied the game with a goal 23:18 into the game-tying the score at 1-1 before halftime.

In the second half, Bailey Deininger (Fr., Hartland, WI) put the visitors back in front with a goal 22:39 into the second-half giving Winona State a 2-1 lead. Ashley Hewitt (Fr., Woodbury) scored another goal with just one minute remaining to close out Winona State’s 3-1 win.

Minnesota Crookston falls to 0-4 overall and 0-3 in NSIC play. UMC returns to the pitch on Sunday when the Golden Eagles host Upper Iowa at 1 P.M. Winona State improves to 2-4 overall and 1-2 in conference play.
