University of Minnesota Crookston senior Harrison Cleary (G, Oak Creek, Wis.) was named CoSIDA Academic All-District for men’s basketball, as was announced Thurs., Feb. 20 by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Cleary is a first-time CoSIDA All-District pick, and is now eligible for CoSIDA Academic All-America honors.
He has been a stand-out on the court and in the classroom during his four seasons at Minnesota Crookston. Cleary was one of three NSIC players named to the All-District 7 team, joining Augustana University’s Tyler Riemersma and Caleb Wagner of Winona State University. They teamed up with K.J. Lesure of University of Arkansas at Monticello, and Kevin Buckingham of Southeastern Oklahoma State University, to make up the Academic All-District 7 squad.
Cleary has a 3.68 GPA in Sports and Recreation Management. Cleary has had an equally impressive career on the court with 2,783 career points. He is 16th all-time in NCAA Division II history for scoring, recently becoming the highest-scoring player since 1992. He is 92 points from moving past Ed Murphy of Merrimack to move into the Top 15 all-time. Cleary is the NSIC’s all-time leading scorer and Minnesota Crookston’s all-time leading scorer. He is also the all-time assist leader for the Golden Eagles. Cleary has been a staple on the All-NSIC First Team and has previously been an All-American on the court. Cleary was also the NCAA Division II free throw champion as a sophomore and junior. He is currently No. 2 in the nation for scoring average in NCAA Division II.
Cleary is now eligible for CoSIDA Academic All-America, which will release Tues., March 10 at 12 p.m.
Cleary is the first Academic All-District pick for Minnesota Crookston athletics since Caitlin Michaelis of Minnesota Crookston women’s basketball in 2019. He is the first men’s basketball player to earn the accolade.
