UNITED WAY HOLDS SUCCESSFUL JAIL & BAIL AND STILL SEEKS SEVERAL “CRIMINAL CELEBRITIES”

The United Way of Crookston held their annual Jail & Bail Fundraiser Tuesday with several local “celebrities” stopping by to either pay their bail or spend some time in jail collecting for the United Way.  Lori Wagner, executive director for the United Way, said she it was a fun day at RBJ’s restaurant. “We had a great, fun day at RBJ’S,” said Wagner.  “I’d like to thank Kim [Samuelson] and her staff for letting us have our Jail & Bail today, Casey Moen and members of the board who were here to help us out today.  We had a really good day.”

Several of the “celebrity” criminals were unable to stop out, so Wagner believes they will still see a large amount of bail fundraising dollars coming in.  “We still have a lot of criminals out there,” said Wagner. “I remember last year at this time we still had a lot of criminals out there.  I will be contacting you if you haven’t brought your $100 or more in.  We do have some people out there still that I’m sure will bring their money in. But everybody has a day job and it’s hard to bring your money in from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. so a lot of money will still be rolling in.”

With the outstanding bail amounts not included, Wagner estimated they had collected about half their goal thus far.  “Last year we raised about $8,000 and I’m sure we’re close to half or more,” said Wagner.  “It’s been kind of a busy day so I’m not sure exactly where we’re at.  All in all its been a great day and a lot of people who came for lunch or breakfast also gave a lot today as well.”

UPDATE from United Way: 3/27/19 11:06 A.M. –  The Jail & Bail raised $5333.37 yesterday, $743 Away from their goal.  Last year we raised $8000. But it took a few weeks for it to come in, so Sheriff Lori Wagner is out getting those criminals.

Thanks to all the Local Celebrities, media donors, RBJ’s breakfast and lunch donors, and the United Way board members for making this fun-friend raiser happen.  A special call out to Casey Moen for volunteering his time for Jail and Bail.  Also Kim at RBJ’s for always being such a great community partner allowing us to be at her great restaurant.
