UNITED WAY VISITS POLK COUNTY DAC TO CHECK HOW SHREDDERS ARE WORKING

United Way of Crookston Executive Director Lori Wagner and board chair Tracy Kuchan visited Polk County DAC on Tuesday to see how the DAC is utilizing their donation from the United Way.  The United Way used donations to purchase two industrial shredders for the DAC, and the clients use them to shred documents and earn some money.  “Last year we bought two industrial-sized shredders,” said Wagner.  “The clients enjoy working with those, and they earn money shredding.  There is a partnership with DocuShred where the larger jobs go there and the smaller ones to the DAC.  Their clients love it.  Jo Bittner (DAC Executive Director) says their clients always run right to the shredders when they come there.”

In the past, the United Way has also funded ten locked document containers that businesses put their paper into for shredding.  According to Wagner, then they call the DAC when they are full, and the DAC takes care of shredding of them. “We went in there today, and one of the gals was working at the station,” said Wagner.  “I think they had four of [the shredders going], including ones we have bought in years before.  They love shredding.  They also have a bunch of big containers.  We bought ten of those for them for different businesses.  Valley Plains have a couple, UMC and RiverView have them.  They are locked, and once they are full, they get picked up for five bucks.”
