UMC’S MEN’S CLUB HOCKEY SCORES THREE IN THE THIRD PERIOD TO WIN OPENER 4-2

The University of Minnesota Crookston (UMC) Men’s Club Hockey team had their first two weekends of the season postponed and they were eager to get the 2021-2022 season underway and scored just over two minutes into the game and added three in the third period in a 4-2 win over the University of Jamestown at the Crookston Sports Center.  UMC’s Josh Pieper (Sr-Baudette) scored the only goal of the first period and it was 1-0 after 20 minutes. The Jimmies Braxton Nies scored the only second period goal to make it a 1-1 game after two periods with UMC being outshot 31-17 but the Golden Eagles goalie, Braden Schmitz (Fresh-Devils Lake, N.D.) stood on his head and stood tall in goal, keeping it 1-1. The Golden Eagles broke it open in the third period with a pair of goals from Tyler Zahradka (Soph-Grand Forks Central (N.D.) with one the only power play of the game. Casey Kallock (Sr-East Grand Forks) actually scored first in the third to give UMC the 2-1 lead that they never relinquished.
