UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA CROOKSTON SOFTBALL SWEPT BY UNIVERSITY OF MARY

The University of Minnesota Crookston (UMC) Golden Eagles Women’s Softball team was swept by the University of Mary in a pair of NSIC games played in Bismarck, North Dakota.

GAME ONE – Rocky Bjorge (Sr., Prior Lake) walked to lead off the top of the fourth inning before Maggie Morales (Sr., Tucson, AZ) singled to right field putting runners on first and second. Samantha Proctor (Jr., Champlin) singled to center field plating Morales and Bjorge giving the Golden Eagles a 2-0 lead heading into the bottom of the fourth inning. The University of Mary led off the bottom of the fourth inning with three singles to plate their first run before a two-RBI single gave the Marauders a 3-1 lead before a single to center field pushed UMary’s lead to 5-2 after four innings. Minnesota Crookston was unable to score another run the rest of the game as the Marauders closed out a 5-2 win in game one.

GAME TWO – UMary scored on a fielding error to take the lead after one inning in game two and never looked back. A double to right field pushed the Marauders lead to 2-0 before a pair of singles to the outfield made it 4-0 for the University of Mary after three innings. The Marauders added two more runs in the fourth inning with a bunt single and fielder’s choice pushing UMary’s lead to 6-0. Samantha Proctor (Jr., Champlin) scored Minnesota Crookston’s first run in the top of the fifth inning before Hannah Macias (Fr., West Covina, CA) grounded out allowing Haley Strachan (Sr., Phoenix, AZ) to score from third base trimming UMC’s deficit down to 6-2. The Marauders added a two-run home run in the bottom of the fifth inning in route to closing out the doubleheader sweep with an 8-2 win in game two.

The Golden Eagles fall to 13-25 overall and 2-12 in NSIC play. Minnesota Crookston returns to the diamond on Saturday when UMC hosts Winona State for a doubleheader beginning at 12:00 p.m. UMary improves to 15-19 overall and 6-8 in conference play.
