MINNESOTA DULUTH USES STRONG SECOND AND THIRD QUARTERS TO BEAT UMC WOMEN’S HOOPS

The University of Minnesota Crookston Golden Eagle Women’s Basketball team struggled in the second and third quarter and Minnesota Duluth pulled away and cruised to a 78-46 Northern Sun Conference game played in Romano Gymnasium at Duluth.

FIRST HALF – 
UMC had a solid start with a Bren Fox (Jr. Norwood Young America) three-pointer and after a Duluth basket, Kylie Post (Sr. Corcoran) added a jump shot for a 5-2 lead.  UMC led 7-5 three minutes into the game when Duluth went on a 5-0 run for a 10-7 lead.  UMC regained the lead after four straight points from Abi Fraaza with two minutes left in the quarter, but Duluth scored the final three points to take a 15-13 lead into the second quarter. 

SECOND QUARTER –
The teams were tied at 15, 19, and 21 before Duluth took over the game.  Duluth outscored UMC 19-3 in the final six minutes of the half and took a commanding 40-24 lead into halftime. 

THIRD QUARTER – 
Duluth continued their domination in the third quarter when they outscored UMC 14-3 in the first four minutes of the quarter for a 53-28 lead.  Duluth continued to control the game and took a 64-34 lead into the fourth quarter. 

FOURTH QUARTER – 
The teams played even for most of the quarter and Duluth outscored UMC 14-12 to win the game 78-46.  

UMC drops to 1-7 on the year and 0-2 in NSIC play and will host Northern State on Friday.
