VALLEY CORN MAIZE IN EAST GRAND FORKS OPENING FRIDAY FOR 2021

The 2021 Valley Corn Maize in East Grand Forks will officially be opening tomorrow afternoon for the first weekend of the fall season. The Maize will be open every weekend Friday through Sunday from now until October 24. This year is a 15-acre corn maze that is “out of this world” and will feature their premier sponsorship partner Pioneer Hi-Bred.

Co-Owner/Operator of Valley Corn Maize Matt Krueger talked about the event more. “This year, we’re going out of this world and into space with the Corn Maize,” said Krueger. “We also have plenty of other activities for people of all ages, from kids all the way up to grandparents. We’ve got the corn box, Hoops’n’Holler, which will give people a chance to shoot some hoops, we’ve got our rat rollers, an Air Cannon, a giant straw pyramid, just a ton of activities out there.”

Other activities available include a Giant slide, corn hole, tetherball, Giant Jenga, and much more. There will also be food and drinks available every day at the event featuring Hotdogs, Nachos, Water, Pop, Hot Cider, Apple Blossoms, Fresh-made Mini Doughnuts, and Candy.

Krueger talked a little bit about some of the preparation that has gone into creating the Corn Maize for this year. “The whole preparation behind the fall time takes a ton of work,” said Krueger. “We plant the corn later in the season, so it’s a little more on the greener side for the start of the fall. We plant it both directions so that there aren’t pathways to walk through, and when the corn is knee-high, we take a lawnmower out and follow the drawings of our lines and get it cut out.”

Most weekends have a theme, and Krueger talked more about a few of the ones for this year. “We have different events throughout the season on most weekends with a few left open in case there is bad weather,” said Krueger. “We have Grandparents Dayz, which means any grandparent that shows up with their grandkid will get in for free. Canines in the Corn is another one we do in October. That is the only time we allow dogs to come into the Corn Maize, so that is a big weekend.” A full list of the events can be found at www.valleycornmaize.com.

There will also be one new event that can be found at the Corn Maize this year, and Krueger talked about the new addition. “This year, we’re excited to bring out a zip-line to the event,” said Krueger. “There will be two of those set up right next to the Corn Maize area, and the finishing touches are all coming together.”

The location is 42969 160th Street SW in East Grand Forks, along Hwy 2, just east of the city.
