Verona M. Heiraas – Obit

Verona M. Heiraas, age 89, of Ada, MN, died Friday, May 28, 2021, at Benedictine Care Community in Ada, after a brief illness.

Verona was born on May 22, 1932, in rural Ada. She was the daughter of Ted and Lillie (Pagel) Hasz. Verona grew up on a farm. She attended school in Ada and graduated in May of 1950. On October 10, 1953, Verona was united in marriage to Donald Miran Heiraas. They made their home in Ada and raised a family of five. Verona was a life-long member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Green Meadow Township. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. Verona was active in the ladies’ aid, taught Sunday School, and served as Financial Secretary for the congregation for many years. She especially loved making numerous quilts and received great joy knowing they were being used to provide warmth for others. Verona’s main passion in life was serving her husband and family. She ran her home with compassion, love, and humor with a little bit of discipline mixed in! She always made time to pray with her family at night and spent countless hours sharing her love for Jesus.

Over the years, Verona candled eggs for the Cossentine family, waitressed at the Pantry and Spot Cafes, served customers at Ecklands Meat Market, and sold jewelry and gifts for Skarud’s Gift Shop. She worked as a secretary for the Ada Public Schools from 1984-1999. Verona enjoyed camping, quilting, baking, gardening, canning, mowing the lawn, and making cinnamon rolls for her family.

Verona is survived by her five children, Ron (Gail) Heiraas, Moorhead, MN, Val (Myron) Uttermark, Waubun, MN, Dan (Tina) Heiraas, Lester Prairie, MN, Patrice (Larry) Gerber, Brighton, CO, and Angie (Mike) Babler, Borup, MN.  Verona is also survived by 12 grandchildren, Jennifer, Kimberly, Ryan, Dusty, Corey, Lindsey, Drew, Timothy, David, Bethany, Matt, and Alli; 16 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; one sister, Irene Dahlin, Breckenridge, MN; three brothers, Wayne (Dorothy), Lester Prairie, MN, Merle (Jackie), Foreston, MN, and Herb (Gail), Grand Forks, ND.

Verona was preceded in death by her parents, and life-long husband of 42 years, Don.

Funeral: 2:00 PM, Thursday, June 3, 2021, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, rural Ada, MN.

Visitation: Thursday from 12:30 PM until the start of the funeral at the church.

Interment: St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery, rural Ada, MN.
